Shooting With The Nikon D90

You can use the D90 like a traditional DLR, setting up for the shot with the mode dial and composing through the viewfinder eyepiece. You also can control options with the command dial and the control panel display on the top right of the camera.

The D90 also uses the 3-inch LCD monitor on the back of the camera to display each image as you shoot. Press the Play button to the left of the monitor to check your photos (and video).
Or work with the D90 as a simple point-and-shoot camera, the monitor in Live View mode. Press the Live View works (Lv) on the button right next to the monitor and the mirror so that you look through the lens directly on the monitor (the viewfinder is disabled). Then start recording video, press the OK button (in the navigation pad on the right side of the monitor).

However, the D90 auto focus mode works differently than in Live View mode and works slower. Instead, choose one of the three options in Live View AF mode: Face priority (up to 5 faces), Wide Area for handheld shooting, and normal area for accuracy when using a tripod.
The D90 will then store pictures in two formats: compressed JPEG format or full-quality RAW format (NEF, 12-bit compressed), or you can shoot every image in both formats. JPEG compression can be the size of priority or the best quality, Fine (approx. 1:4), Normal (1:8), or Basic (1:16).
The camera shoots the video in three resolutions: QVGA (320 x 216), VGA (640 x 424) or 720p HD (1280 x 720) at 24 fps frame rate. The video is very suitable for processing, stored in AVI files using Motion JPEG compression and mono sound.
But the D90 video recording time is limited: It is distinguished films on the SD / SDHC card, which is limited to files within the 2 GB size. This results in a maximum recording time is approximately 5 minutes for HD and 20 minutes for the lower-resolution formats.
The D90 has a Hi-Speed USB port to transfer files to a computer, up NTSC video output to view videos and view photos and HDMI output directly on an HDTV display.
